Barney and Fulmodeston CC v Dersingham CC
Barney welcomed a strong Dersingham outfit to The Drift on a surprisingly mild day. With the sun shining Barney captain James Dagless won the toss and chose to bat first. Club President J. White and J. Seed opened the innings and scored quickly off the first couple of over's, albeit off the edges in the case of White. However, wickets soon began to fall on a pitch that offered all sorts to the bowlers. White (8) was the first to go, caught after mistiming an attacking shot into the offside. I. Seed and C. Lonsdale were run out and bowled respectively without really troubling the scorers. Shortly afterwards J. Seed was bowled for 22. The middle order needed to stand up and be counted as Barney languished on 32-4. J. Phillipson and Dagless steadied the ship, playing sensibly, but riding their luck at times, scoring slowly in rebuilding the innings. After Phillipson (11), Dagless (12) and R. Lonsdale (7) departed in quick succession, Barney were on 74-7. The tail enders did their part, amassing another 31 runs, with J. Burton the pick of them with a convincing 22, before being caught on the boundary to a good catch to finish the Barney innings on 105 all out.
J. Seed, J. Burton 22 W. Symmington 3-24
After an enjoyable and plentiful spread of teas put on by Barney pair J. White and J. Seed, Dersingham set about chasing down their modest target. Barney bowlers L. Channell and R. Lonsdale kept the opening over's tight on a pitch that appeared to have lost most of the life it had shown earlier in the match. Lonsdale then picked up a wicket in the 6th over, leaving Dersingham 13-1. D. Coggins then came in and together with opener M. Harman put on 60 for the second wicket, before Harman departed to the bowling of L. Riseborough for 30. It wasn’t long before Coggins departed to Dagless for 21, leaving the score at 81-3. Wickets began to fall regularly, with Dagless and Riseborough finishing with 2 apiece, and substitute fielder C. Baker proving his worth to the side with a superb run out. However, Barney’s low total came back to bite them as J. Peveritt knocked off the last few runs with ease, including a massive six in the final over of their innings.
M. Harman 30 J. Dagless 2-17
Man of the Match: J. Seed.
Match Sponsors: Ridgeons and The Crawfish, Thursford.
Finally, a big thank you to Aaron Riseborough for doing the scoring in both innings, to Jacob Seed and James White for doing the teas, and to Richard Riseborough for his continued support, motivation and efforts at the club.
